He does not release music very often; though he has become a household name in the eyes of every dnb fan around the world. His tracks feature in just about every DJ set week in week out, year after year. His tracks go down as some of the biggest and best annually and they have truly stood the test of time, both in production and creativity. His last EP was back in July 2007, shortly after signing to Ram Records. Ever since, he has developed a very distinctive sound, it has that “roundness” and that “fatness” that every producer in the game seeks to achieve in their own tracks and continually pushes the boundaries of the genre we all love. Of course we are talking about none other than Ram’s very own production master Culture Shock. We are very excited to share with you guys his brand new EP “Transit” which is soon to drop on Ram, only being his 2 nd EP since signing to the label it shows us that it is all about quality and not about quantity, let us assure you the wait has been totally worth it. So lets get to it …
“Rush Connection” & “Steam Machine” were smash hits over the last festival seasons worldwide and for good reason. “Steam Machine” was the first taster from the EP back in November last year and it really gave us a good insight into what was to come. Those signature Culture Shock basslines and synths have had some tweaking and come back as powerful as ever, paired with equally as powerful drums these tracks punish speakers with a sonic wave of rolling fatness. The tracks are a culmination of super tight production skills and awesome synth work.
“Tangents” was the second taste of the EP back in November last year and with it had almost brought along with it, its very own sub-genre inside of drum and bass with its progressive acid stabs, which gradually build as the track and vocals develop. Really great listening experience with tons of warm sounds and a cool groove you simply can not, not bop your head and roll with it.
Finally, last but certainly not least we have “No More”. We can all remember thinking what was that track dropped by “Andy C” way back in his Essential Mix at Glastonbury Festival and finally now we know. It has proved to be a greatly anticipated track which we see a collaboration between Culture Shock and Josh Parkinson. The pair has teamed up in a “Versus” style track on the EP and have ground out a really great piece of music. With those elegant vocals, which will be stuck in your head for days after the first time you hear them, the track gives you an uplifting feeling with great energy and a real summer vibe, a really great last addition to the EP and so it ends in style.
